Yili (Eliza) Chien – Piano

 

With over 20 years of teaching and performing experience, Eliza has guided students of all ages and levels to a consistent 95% success rate in ABRSM exams. Her music journey began at age 6, inspired daily by her elder sister’s piano practice. Excelling in her studies, she graduated with top honors in piano from National Tsing Hua University in 2004. (Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education)

After graduation, Eliza served as a credential music teacher in school and imparted her knowledge to over 300 students annually. Her pursuit of musical excellence and ambition gained the scholarship at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom. In 2010, she completed her double degree with Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Performance and Master Degree in Music under Professor Philip Martin and David Quidley. (Diploma and Master of Music).

Eliza’s career took a new turn in Germany. She performed as accompanist roles, exploring modern and contemporary music through different charity concerts. In 2014, she moved to the United States, focusing on preparing students for the ABRSM exams in piano and theory with exceptional results.

As a young musician, she graced the stage of Royal Birmingham Conervstoire’s Adrian Boult Hall and Aroy Foyer Hall, including various lunch concerts in the United Kingdom. The charity concert in Alexanderplatz, Berlin was attended by over a thousand people and played at Foguang Temple in Berlin, Germany. In the United States, she engaged in solo, chamber music and collaborations at San Jose University Recital Hall.

Eliza’s teaching philosophy is rooted in a supportive triangle of parents, teachers, and students. She ensures each student receives personalized attention and progresses at their own pace. Conduct young beginners in a fun, supportive, performance-focused environment. For high school or advanced students, balancing music with their academic pursuit, and identifying their struggles. Her personality is open-minded and patient and energetic. She cultivates essential skills like discipline, focus, and creativity, while boosting confidence and self-esteem.

In the 2019 Fall piano practical exam, all her 9 enrolled students passed, with 3 achieving merits and 1 earning a high distinction. In grade 5 Theory, 80% of her students (4 out of 5) passed with only 3 months of preparation. Her teaching covers scales, sight reading, ear training, and music theory. Her commitment has not only led to high exam success rates but also helped students to build confidence with critical thinking.
